A Sligo Leitrim TD has described the current electricity bills arriving through the doors of households as 'truly terrifying'.
Speaking in the Dail last night on a Sinn Fein motion on Domestic Electricity and Gas Disconnections, Independent TD Marian Harkin warned that low income earners have no flexibility.
The Deputy made reference to a case of one man who chose to spend the extra four hundred euro he got in the fuel allowance on a gravestone for one of his children.
Deputy Harkin also outlined how charities are already over stretched and can't be used as a mud guard.
