In the US, Irish-American Congressman Brendan Boyle has been officially sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives.

Boyle, whose father is originally from Glencolmcille and who also has strong family connections in the Rathlee area of County Sligo, represents Pennsylvania.

The Democrat was re-elected in the Pennsylvania District in November, having been first elected in 2004.

Securing affordable health care and lowering costs for people are among his key priorities going forward.

He visited his ancestral home of Easkey some years back.

He's also the son of Glencolmcille native Francis Boyle who emigrated at just 19 from Donegal in the 1970s.
