BreastCheck confirms that it will operate in Collooney and not Sligo Town

BreastCheck has confirmed that the location for its service in Sligo town is no longer available and will now operate from a site in Collooney.

It follows criticisms of plans to ask women who had used the service in Sligo town to go to Tubbercurry.

It emerged over the weekend that patients of this national screening service which comes to Sligo town are now being referred to Tubbercurry.

But both cancer survivors and politicians have called for the service to be conrtinued to be provided in Sligo town.

However, BreastCheck says the location in Sligo town where the service was due to be provided is no longer available.

In a statement to Ocean FM News this afternoon, it says it has found a suitable location at the Teeling Centre, in Collooney, that will allow it operate as close to Sligo town as possible.

That unit is expected to be in operation in about six to seven weeks.

BreastCheck says that any woman who is due a mammogram before this will be invited to the Tubbercurry mobile unit.
