Brendan Boyle wins re-election to US Congress

Irish-American Congressman Brendan Boyle has won re-election to the US House of Representatives.

Boyle, whose father is originally from Glencolmcille and who also has strong family connections in the Rathlee area of County Sligo represents Pennsylvania.

With votes still being tallied, NBC is reporting that Boyle will return for a sixth term in his heavily Democratic district in Philadelphia.

Boyle currently has a 71% lead over his Republican opponent, Aaron Bashir.

The Congressman from Philadelphia has family roots in both south west Donegal and with Rathlee, where his maternal grandparents once lived.

He visited his ancestral home of Easkey some years back.

He is the son of Glencolmcille native Francis Boyle who emigrated at just 19 from Donegal in the 1970s.
