Brexit shouldn't affect North West railway

The outcome of Britain leaving the European Union shouldn't stop attempts at getting a train line connecting the North West with Northern Ireland.

Independent TD and OPW minister of State Sean Canney submitted a proposal to the National Transport Authority last week which called for the creation of a rail line connecting Sligo to Donegal and Derry.

It was supported by a number of other Junior Ministers including Donegal's Fine Gael deputy Joe McHugh as well as cross party members of the Dail.

Despite fears of a return to a hard border in the aftermath of Brexit potentially putting a halt to any plans before they even begin, Deputy Canney says there was no issues of connecting international rail lines before the EU.
