It was a busy weekend for rescue services as a number of callouts were made across Saturday and Sunday.
Rescue 118, Lough Swilly RNLI and Arranmore RNLI were all tasked over the course of the weekend.
On Saturday, two anglers were rescued after their boat was struck by what’s being described as a “freak wave” in north Donegal.
Lough Swilly RNLI was tasked by Malin Head Coast Guard to remove the two men from their vessel.
The alarm was raised just off Carryblagh, when the two anglers making their way back from a day’s fishing were struck unexpectedly by the violent wave, injuring one of the men.
The injured casualty was transferred to another lifeboat to receive first aid and treatment, before being transferred by boat to an awaiting ambulance at Buncrana Pier.
At 8am on Sunday, The volunteer crew of Arranmore RNLI were asked to assist in a medical evacuation from the island by the Malin Head Coast Guard.
The volunteer first responders of the Arranmore ambulance delivered the patient to Leabgarrow pier and the patient was then transferred to the lifeboat.
On arrival at Burtonport the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance and then on to Letterkenny University Hospital for assessment.
And Rescue 118 were also tasked from Sligo on Sunday morning, coming to the aid of a sick fisherman on a vessel 60 nautical miles North West of Bloody Foreland in tricky conditions.
The fishing boat crew aided Rescue 118 with the hi-line on deck assisting our winchman while being lowered to the deck. The casualty was winched, and transported to ambulance at Sligo Airport.
