The Taoiseach has recommitted to funding the A5 road project which runs from Derry to Dublin.
The route is one of the main roads used by commuters travelling from Donegal to Dublin.
Leo Varadkar made the comments yesterday evening at Oideas Gael in Glencolmcille, Co Donegal for the final cabinet meeting before the summer break.
There had been fears that Brexit, the government's Climate Action Plan and the overspend of the National Children's Hospital would affect the budget for the route.
The Taoiseach says the delay is due to planning issues north of the border and says it is a project he very much believes in.
