A Leitrim councillor is calling for unoccupied houses throughout County Leitrim to be made available to help deal with the country's housing shortage.
While there is a shortage of housing nationally, Independent Councillor Des Guckian points out there is what he describes as 'a glut' of houses in Leitrim.
Many of the houses in Leitrim are in estates built by developers to take advantage of tax schemes.
Cllr Guckian says it resulted in 233 new housing estates, or about 10,000 new houses, being built in Leitrim in a ten to twelve year period.
He feels many of these houses could now be put to good use, and to the advantage of County Leitrim.
