A local TD is calling on the government to ensure funds for the north west region is spent correctly.
Under EU recommendations, the north west has been downgraded from a 'Developed Region' to a 'Region in Transition' which means the government is eligible to draw down €350m to help develop the area.
Speaking in the Dail yesterday, Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD, Marc MacSharry, says we can't repeat the mistakes of the past and that Brexit, 'hard or soft' will have a negative impact for the north west.
He says there has been underinvestment across the likes of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal for decades, and this needs to change.

Deputy MacSharry also highlighted the needs of the hospitality sector during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
He is critical of the current guidelines for the likes of pubs and restaurants, saying that they must have been 'thought up by someone behind a desk who has never been in a pub.'
