A long-time Irish-language campaigner in Leitrim says that he does not think the language is in a poor state in terms of those using it.
Seán Ó Súilleabhain of Conradh na Gaelige in Leitrim is also the former County Librarian in Leitrim and a long-time supporter of speaking his native Irish.
He will take part in a protest outside the Bank of Ireland branch in Carrick-on-Shannon today over the Bank's decision to remove the "Gaelige" option when using it's ATM machines.
Bank of Ireland has defended the move saying that only 1% of people use the Irish option.
Mr. Ó Súilleabhain says that figure is not as bad as it sounds and in fact Bank of Ireland should be adding more languages instead of removing our native one:
