Carthy raises issue of tax avoidance in EU parliament

A North West MEP is hitting out at the government on the issue of tax avoidance.

Speaking during a debate on the topic in the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week, Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy claimed the Irish government could be in fact facilitating tax avoidance .

The Ireland North West representative, a member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, believes 'the perception of Ireland as an enabler of massive tax avoidance was unfortunately true.'

He says clear and apparent transparency is the only way to fix the problem:
