Ceremony for Private Seán Rooney taking place today

A ceremony will be held in memory of the late Private Seán Rooney on Sunday afternoon.

The wreath-laying ceremony for Private Rooney will take place in Newtowncunningham at 3pm.

The event, organised by The Irish United Nations Veterans Association is asking its members to gather in the carpark of the Church of All Saints at 2:30pm prior to the ceremony.

Private Rooney, a native of Newtowncunningham in Donegal, was killed in December last year after a convoy of Irish soldiers came under fire in south Lebanon.

He was 24 at the time.

Private Rooney was a member of the 27th Infantry Battalion at Aiken Barracks in Dundalk at the time of his death.
