A special ceremony will take place in Ballinamore on Monday to honour the memory of two Gardaí that were killed in the line of duty.

Garda Recruit Gary Sheehan and Private Patrick Kelly were part of a joint search party looking for kidnapped businessman Don Tidey in December 1983.

They were tragically confronted by a Provisional IRA gang at Drumcornan Wood in Ballinamore and were shot dead.

Monday’s ceremony will feature the unveiling of a Monument of Remembrance dedicated to both men, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the state.
