For the first time in more than 50 years, the McCartin name will not be on a ballot paper in Leitrim for this May's local elections.
It's after sitting Fine Gael Councillor John McCartin confirmed he will not be running for reelection, having been a councillor for the past 10 years
In the past, the Newtowngore, Ballinamore businessman had been tipped as a possible TD.
Cllr McCartin says he is not leaving politics behind.
But, speaking to Ocean FM reporter Harry Keaney, he accepted his decision not to run marks a break in what has been long political service by members of the McCartan family.
