Closure of rural post offices will have 'knock-on' effects

A south Sligo Councillor says the announcement that post offices including Gurteen are to close has come as a huge shock to the local community.

Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor is one of those attending a public meeting on the issue at the community hall in Gurteen tomorrow night at 8pm.

It's one of a number of public meetings that are taking place on the issue this week including a meeting attended by over a hundred people in Dunkineely in county Donegal last night.

Speaking on North West Today, Cllr Taylor said its closure will have a knock-on effect on other businesses in the community:
