Company extends sympathy to family of man who died tragically in windfarm incident

Company extends sympathy to family of man who died tragically in windfarm incident

The company running a windfarm where a Leitrim man tragically lost his life yesterday say their thoughts are with the family of the man.

A 37 year man from Rossinver lost his life after what is known as a 'bog-slide' in the area he was working on Derrysallagh Windfarm in Kilronan on the border of Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon.

 

A spokesperson for Moriarty Civil Engineering spoke to Ocean FM News this afternoon expressing their deepest sympathies to the family of the man who died following a landslide on their site yesterday.

Ballymote Gardai are heading the investigation after they were notified of the incident just before 7pm yesterday evening.

The emergency services were called to the scene and a number of units of the fire brigade, Gardai and the Sligo mountain rescue worked into the early hours in what became a recovery operation.

The man's body was recovered at 2am this morning and removed to Sligo University Hospital.

A spokesperson for the Moriarty Group said this evening that the man, who was from Rossinver in north Leitrim had been working with them for a year.

They have extended their sympathies to the family and state they are also co-operating with the investigations underway by the Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority.

The company, which is headquartered in Tralee in county Kerry has also confirmed to Ocean FM News that they have launched their own internal technical and engineering investigation in the incident.
