Concern expressed with shortage of properties available to rent under HAP scheme

A Sligo councillor says the revelation that there are very few properties to rent under the Housing Assistance Payment scheme comes as no real surprise to him.

A new survey from the Simon Communities of Ireland shows that just 41 properties were available to rent under the scheme last month in the entire country.

Sligo Strandhill Counillor, Arthur Gibbons says securing property under the HAP scheme is extremely in Sligo.

The Sinn Fein Councillor says the financial contribution from the State that goes towards paying rent is not sufficient to modern day rents  and that many landlord are deciding not engage wit HAP tenants:
