Concern over assessment waiting times for children with autism in North West

Serious concern has been raised over assessment waiting times for children with autism in Sligo and Leitrim.

 

Currently, children are waiting up to 16 months for an assessment in the Sligo South Donegal area while in Leitrim, the longest waiting time is 6 months.

The HSE has stated that efforts are being made to tackle the issue, with those waiting longest being outsourced by the team for private assessment.

 

But Independent Leitrim Cllr Felim Gurn says there a number of issues at play that must be addressed before those waiting times are reduced:
