There is confusion over whether or not a €1b fund set aside for farmers affected by the Mercusor deal exists.

Following a question from North West MEP Sinn Fein's Matt Carthy to the European Commissioner enquiring about the money, he was told that no funding was set aside at this time.

This contradicts what EU Agriculture Minister, Phil hogan, said a number of weeks ago confirming that the funds were set aside.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Sligo IFA Chairperson, Kathleen Henry, says they are of the belief that the money HAS been set aside.

However, she says their issue is that farmers need it sooner rather than later.
