Construction on a long-awaited new diabetes centre at Sligo University Hospital is to start toward the end of this month.
The modular building is expected to be completed in less than six months.
Confirmation of the go-ahead of construction was contained in the HSE capital plan announced this week.
Councillor Donal Gilroy, joint-chairman of the Sligo branch of Diabetes Ireland, says it's long-overdue.
