Cost of living prevents homeowners from providing refugee accommodation says Donegal Councillor

A Donegal Councillor is warning that the rising costs of living are preventing many homeowners from providing accommodation to those fleeing the war in the Ukraine.

Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy says it's important to provide state assistance to families that are opening their homes to Ukrainian refugees.

The calls come as Ireland faces a potential accommodation crisis, with 32 thousand people expected to arrive in the country by Easter Sunday.

There are fears among advocacy bodies that warehouses or tents may be used to deal with the wave of new arrivals.
