Council examines implications of High Court case

Sligo County Council says it is examining the implications of a High Court decision for the maintenance of its local authority houses.

It comes after the court decided to award €105,000 to a man who slipped on the front porch of his local authority house in Sligo.

Thomas Keegan, of McNeill Drive, Cranmore, sued the council in the High Court, which put a stay on the award pending an appeal but ordered that €30,000 be paid immediately to him.

There was disagreement in the case about whether the tiles in the porch were suitable for the porch area.

In response to a query from Ocean Fm News, the council says it has received a copy of the High Court judgement and will examine it for possible implications in relation to the maintenance of its local authority housing.
