Council has little control over potential plans for large scale forestry development

It’s been revealed that Sligo County Council has little to no control over potential plans for large scale forestry development in the County.

 

The controversial Coillte deal with Gresham House had led to major ongoing concern locally over what lies ahead for vast amount of lands in the North West.

It had been hoped that the planning section at Sligo County Council may be in a position to firefight the issue going forward however it’s understood that it has limited powers to do so.

 

Local Cllr Joe Queenan says he and others are elected to represent affected communities and for their hands to be effectively tied on the issue is totally unacceptable:
