Sligo Councillor calls for suspension of schools voluntary contributions

A Sligo Secondary school teacher and County Councillor is calling for the for the schools voluntary contributions process to be scrapped.

 

Voluntary contributions are made by parents to cover annual heating, electricity and maintenance costs in primary schools.

The contributions can range from 200 to 400 Euro per household depending on the size of the school.

 

Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Marie Casserly says the financial pressure on parents of students attending schools is currently too much due to the cost of living crisis and that the demands for these payments should be suspended.
