Councillor: 'Clean-up groups must have place for rubbish'

A Sligo councillor says that when community groups carry out clean-ups and litter-picks, they sometimes have no place to deposit the rubbish collected.

The issue was highlighted when Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey asked at a meeting of the council about the possibility of having rubbish skips located at the Tubbercurry recycling facility.

Cllr Mulvey was told the Tubbercurry facility was operated for the council by a private company, Barna, and that the placing of rubbish skips at this location would not be financially viable

He was also told it would be very difficult to ensure the skips were used only for the purpose intended.

However, Cllr Mulvey said community groups do very good work in carrying out clean-ups and litter picks.
