Councillor encourages Government to include retrofitting in Climate Action Plan

A Sligo Councillor has urged the government to focus on providing adequate insulation in homes as part of the climate action plan.

Details of the plan, which were announced yesterday, have been criticised, with opposition to reducing car parking spaces and cutting the national herd.

Irish carbon emissions rose by five per cent last year and are expected to rise by six per cent in 2023, despite government promises.

Sligo Drumcliffe Councillor Donal Gilroy says there is currently a shortage of skilled labourers when it comes to the provision of insulation.

He says meeting retrofitting targets would be beneficial in reducing heating costs and would lead to a cleaner environment.
