Donegal councillor prevents the lowering of the national flag in Dungloe

Council staff working at the offices of Donegal County in Dungloe have been prevented from flying the national flag at half-mast this morning.

It was planned to fly the national flag at half-mast on all Government buildings across the county today as a mark of respect as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth.

The request was made to the council and sent on to all departments, including local councillors.

Council staff have been unable to lower the flag at the offices in Dungloe after a major banner was placed on the flag pole.

The banner was erected by the Donegal independent councillor,  Michael Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig.

He was unhappy with the directive that was circulated to Council staff and expressed his dissatisfaction on a message which was printed on the banner placed on the Council offices in Dungloe.  He also claims that a large number of council staff were unhappy with the directive.

He earlier explained to Ocean FM news why he has taken this course of action:
