Councillors call for inquiry into reviews of post offices

Sligo municipal district councillors have unanimously called for an inquiry to be carried out into how reviews are being done on submissions from people who want to keep rural post offices open in their areas.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy proposed at yesterday's meeting of the councillors in Sligo Town Hall that the two ministers responsible for communications and rural affairs carry out the inquiry into An Post's independent review panel.

It's after claims that a decision was made on the closure of Ballinfull Post Office in north Sligo before independent reviewers received a community submission.

An Post insists proper consideration was given to the relevant parts of the submission.
