Councillors hear there are no plans to upgrade Easkey sewerage system

Despite claims that there's a weekly discharge of raw sewage into a West Sligo river, there is no indication when -- or if -- an old sewerage system in the area will be upgraded.

At this week's meeting of county councillors from the Ballymote/Tubbercurry/West Sligo area, Cllr Michael Clarke proposed that the council call on Irish Water to upgrade the Easkey sewerage system and extend it to about 20 houses in the Fortland area.

Councillors were told it was Irish Water's capital assets division that would make decisions about upgrades but that Easkey is not on any programme for upgrading.

Councillor Clarke says the situation seems outside the control of Sligo County Council.
