Covid outbreak at LUH sees 10 patients affected

There is currently an outbreak of Covid-19 in Letterkenny University Hospital.

It's understood that up to 10 patients are affected.

In a statement released by the Saolta Hospital Group, it was confirmed that there was an outbreak of Covid-19 in one of the wards of the hospital.

This has led to visits being limited, with the hospital saying that all visits must be pre-arranged by the family members or nominated visitor, who should contact the relevant ward or unit in advance.

The statement goes on to say that the Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy, with high numbers presenting over the past few days.

On Monday of this week 209 patients attended the Emergency Department, one of the highest attendances recorded in LUH. On Wednesday, 55 people attended at the Emergency Department and the hospital is seeing similar high attendances today.

LUH reccommend that people consider other options for non-emergency care such as Out of Hours GP and pharmacies before attending an ED, and are asking people not to visit the hospital if they have any Respiratory symptoms or have had contact with someone who has COVID-19.
