Thirty-six Defence Forces personnel from Donegal and eight from Sligo will be among 347 leaving on a United Nations (UNIFIL)  peace-keeping mission in South Lebanon in the coming weeks.

The 117 Infantry Battalion will also include four from Cavan, six from Derry, one from Fermanagh and 11 from Roscommon.

As part of their preparations before departure, they have been in quarantine in Coolmoney Camp in the Glen of Imaal in Wicklow.

The 17th Infantry Battalion will be part of a multinational battalion comprising of Irish, Maltese, Polish and Hungarian personnel.

Among those travelling will be Commandant John Quinn, from Strandhill, Co. Sligo.

He has been telling Ocean FM News how the north west will be well represented.
