Deputy Harkin votes against Leo Varadkar ahead of cabinet reshuffle

A Sligo-Leitrim TD has outlined why she has not voted in support of new Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar.

Independent TD Marian Harkin has voted against Leo Varadkar assuming the role as Taoiseach following the cabinet reshuffle.

Deputy Harkin previously voted in support of outgoing Taoiseach Mícheál Martin in 2020.

Prior to today’s vote, Deputy Harkin outlined what she described the lack of investment in the north west region in what she called a 'development trap':
