Detail awaited for new Suckler Cow Payment Scheme

The Minister for finance, Paschal Donohoe has approved a new 20 million Euro Suckler Support fund in today's budget.

Farmers will receive a payment of 40 Euro per Suckler Cow provided they provide weight information on both cows and calves.

The IFA had lobbied for a payment of 200 Euro per cow.

Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry says the payment will only benefit a small number of farmers in the North West.
