Fianna Fail Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly is the latest name to pull out of the party’s selection convention in Donegal.

Yesterday, both Senator Niall Blaney and Ben Harkin confirmed that they would also not be contesting the forthcoming convention.

It’s due to take place tomorrow and will decide who will run for Fianna Fail in Donegal in the upcoming General Election.

In a statement, Letterkenny Councillor Donal Mandy Kelly said that currently he is not in a strong enough position to make it through what is going to be a very tough convention.

Out of the six names originally put forward for the Fianna Fail convention, only three now remain.

They are Minister Charlie McConalogue, Councillor Michael Naughton and former MEP and TD Pat The Cope Gallagher.

One candidate will be chosen from Donegal South and another from Donegal North.

It’s now looking like Minister McConalogue will be put forward unopposed to contest the General Election in Donegal North while Pat the Cope Gallagher and Cllr Michael Naughton are set to go head to head for the Donegal South nomination.

The convention will be held tomorrow evening in the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny at 6pm.
