Donegal County Councillors have collectively expressed their dissatisfaction in relation to the Mica Redress scheme at this week's meeting of the local authority.
The Local Authority is to contact the minister for Housing, Daire O’ Brien to alter the scheme being offered to those impacted by the defective blocks.
Mica dominated the December meeting of the Donegal County Council with Cathaoirleach Jack Murray suspending standing orders in order to facilitate a full discussion on the issue.
The main concern that many Councillors say they have with the redress scheme is the sliding scale of compensation.
Independent Donegal Municipal District Councillor, Niamh Kennedy says the introduction of the sliding scale criteria was a late inclusion by the government and will result in home- owners having to make up significant amounts in order to have their homes repaired or rebuilt.

There has been a similar reaction to the news in Mayo where a large number of buildings have also been impacted by the defective blocks condition. Mayo Sinn Féin TD, Rose Conway-Walsh, has said that the government needs to remove the 'sliding scale' provision of the Pyrite/Mica redress scheme.
