Donegal County Council receive most applications for derelict property grant

Donegal County Council has the highest number of applications under the vacant and derelict property refurbishment grant scheme in the country.

The Government has published the latest figures as it relates to the scheme, which show that, already, approximately €45m has been paid out nationally towards the refurbishment of more than 860 homes.

The figures which outline applications, approvals and payments under the scheme up to the end of September 2024, also show the exponential increase in the rate of grants issued to homeowners following completion of work.

There have been a total of 934 applications received by Donegal County Council so far, with 614 approvals - 60 of these homeowners have already been paid their grant payments. This is the highest figure in the country.

While in Leitrim, 201 applications have been received by Leitrim County Council, 139 of these getting the green light and 16 grants have been paid to homeowners.

The grant is paid out upon completion of all the works involved and as the scheme continues, more and more completions are said to be coming on stream.

Overall, since the launch of the grant just over two years ago, there have been 10,097 applications, 6,713 approvals and 867 grants issued.
