Donegal TDs says no reason why report on alleged abuse in HSE-run centre cannot be published

Donegal TDs say there is no reason why the report into alleged sexual abuse at a HSE facility in the county should not be released in full.

Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty is seeking an urgent meeting with the HSE to raise the concerns of the victims and their families in relation to the delay in the publication of the report.

Parts of the report that have been leaked to the public revealed that over 100 instances of "sustained sexual abuse" occurred at the Ard Greine Court and Sean O'Hare Unit, at St Joseph's Hospital in Stranorlar, over a period of 13 years.

A Garda investigation into the report's contents concluded over the Bank Holiday Weekend, but it's now believed that they are seeking legal advice regarding its publication.

Independent Deputy Thomas Pringle believes seeking legal advice is a "stalling measure".

Deputy Doherty says that while the gardai may have legitimate concerns relating to the publication of the report while their investigations are ongoing.

But he insists a solution must be found so that victims and their families are not left waiting without answers indefinitely.
