Donegal TDs want clarity on future of community hospitals

Donegal TDs are calling for clarity on the future of three community hospitals in the county.

There had been plans to replace existing long-stay residential care beds at the hospitals in Lifford, Ramelton and Stranorlar, and transfer services to a new nursing faciity in Letterkenny.

However, after a backlash from local communities, it was decided to retain the existing beds and refrubish the units concerned, while the new unit in Letterkenny would go ahead under revised plans.

But Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty has hit out at what he says is the continuing uncertainty over the future for long-stay residential care in the hospitals.
