Dr Brian O'Boyle will contest the European elections for People Before Profit this summer.
Dr O'Boyle, who is based in Sligo and is a lecturer in ATU Sligo, has been a long-serving member of People Before Profit, and will contest the seat in the Midlands North West Region.
Running alongside him is Cian Prendeville, a former Limerick Councillor running in the South region, and Bríd Smith, a serving TD in Dublin.
Dr O'Boyle is a member of many groups in Sligo, recently chairing the county's Right2Water group, and is currently part of the organising committee of the Sligo Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
