Burglary crime rates have decreased in the Sligo-Leitrim Garda Division over the past 12 months by 19%.
PhoneWatch's November 2024 burglary reported highlighted the noticeable drop when compared to the previous year.
According to the latest CSO figures, there were 132 reported burglaries across the Sligo-Leitrim area.
At 19%, the region had the joint highest decrease across the country. However, this is conflicting on a national level, as there was an overall increase of burglaries of 9% during 12 month period up until November of this year.
Winter is statistically found to be the highest season for increased rates of burglaries, and homeowners are being asked to react promptly, by taking security measures such as locking windows and doors, keeping a light on, and neighbour assistance.
