The minister for transport, tourism and sport Shane Ross has announced almost 1.2 million euro in funding support for airports in the west & northwest.

Ireland West Airport Knock is to receive 870 thousand euro with Donegal airport getting 320 thousand.

The allocations are being made under the Regional Airports Programme 2015-2019 and will provide assistance towards the operational costs.

Regional airports in Kerry and Waterford also received funding in today's announcement.

Meanwhile, Employees from a Sligo Biopharmaceutical Company have raised €37,000 for a Parkinson's Charity.

More than 70 employees from the biopharmaceutical company AbbVie took part in a three-day, 400 kilometre cycle from Sligo to Cork earlier this year to raise vital funds for the Move4Parkinson's charity.

The proceeds were recently presented to the charity at a donation event in the company's medical device centre of excellence in Ballytivnan, Sligo.

This is the second year that AbbVie employees have donned their lycra for a good cause.

In 2015, 60 employees from across AbbVie's five locations in Ireland took to their saddles to raise much-needed funds to provide services for people living with Crohn's disease, colitis and arthritis.
