Funding of up to €2.2m has been announced for developing outdoor projects in the North West.
It's part of a €16m package allocated nationwide for projects under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
Donegal are the largest beneficiaries in the North West, with €900,000 allocated there. Projects being developed include the Millside Walk in Fintown, the McManus Estate in Rossylongon, and the Muckish Railway Walk. The Millside Walk and McManus Estate will receive €200,000 each, with the remaining €500,000 going to the Railway Walk.
€794,000 has been awarded to four projects in Leitrim. The Drumshanbo Narrow Gauge Railway will get the largest share of that, at just over €400,000. The Lough Melvin Eco Park Water Hub will receive €198,000, just over €130,000 going to Sheemore Carpark, and Parke's Castle getting over €63,000.
Just over half a million has been allocated for three projects in Sligo. The Tubbercurry Forest Trail and the rehabilitation of the Sligo Way are in line to get €200,000 each, and the remaining 126,000 going to the Ray Flynn Way at Colga Lake.
This announcement will mean that since 2016, over €128m has been invested under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) supporting over 1,772 projects.
