€5.9m has been paid to Sligo farmers.
The money comes from the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC ) fund and is a part of the €1.6b owed to farmers nationally.
2,749 farmers in the county are to benefit from the funds with a total of 79,000 farmers around the country.
Under current EU regulations, 85% of the money will be paid in advance and a further 15% balancing payment from early December 2019.
Speaking to OceanFM News, Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh is welcoming the news, particulary with Brexit round the corner.
