East parts of the North West may be hit by thunder and heavy downpours

Met Eireann are warning that the Northwest may experience some thundery downpours over the next couple of days.

There is a status yellow rain alert, which is in effect from 9 o’clock this morning until 10 tonight.

They say there could be extremely heavy rainfall in places, with up to 50 millimetres falling in a short space of time.

But forecaster with Met Eireann, Gerry Murphy says Eastern parts of Sligo and Donegal will be most at risk:
