EIR CEO says company is 'committed to Sligo' and praises 'talented team'

The CEO of Eir says the telecommunications company is 'committed to Sligo' and its customer care service in Rathedmond.

In a statement released this morning, she also said Eir had 'a talented team in Sligo.'

Carolan Lennon has been under a barrage of criticism because of comments she made in relation to Eir's customer care centre in Sligo.

Yesterday, at the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications Networks, she was questioned about the issues Eir has faced in managing call centres during the pandemic.

She spoke of the mistake Eir's management team made in underestimating the complexities of building a care centre on a greenfield site in Sligo, as well as the challenges in hiring and training new care agents, and establishing a new business operation.

In a statement issued to Ocean FM this morning, Ms Lennon said Eir is committed to Sligo, and to its Rathedmond care centre in Sligo town.

She says it is also committed to the hundreds of Eir employees working in care and field operations throughout the region and the thousands of eir employees working across Ireland.

Ms Lennon said that when she spoke of mistakes made in relation to Sligo, she wished to clarify that she was referring to mistakes she and her management team made in 'underestimating the complexities of building a care centre on a greenfield site.'

She said Eir has a talented team in Sligo and also has every support from the IDA and regional authorities.

She said they were are extremely proud of their Sligo centre.

She added that before the pandemic hit, Eir was meeting every target set for care and was steadily progressing on its plan to return to an acceptable level of care.

Ms Lennon also said she wished to apologise to any customer who has faced long wait times in recent months.

And she thanked all in Eir for their ongoing commitment and hard work throughout the pandemic.
