Comments from an Electric Ireland executive suggesting those facing difficulties paying their energy bills could avail of St. Vincent de Paul have been described as 'ludicrous' and 'insensitive' by a Leitrim Councillor following further price hikes.
Electric Ireland executive director Marguerite Sayers said such families 'should contact the company, charity St. Vincent de Paul or the Money Advice and Budgeting Service.'
From November 1st, the state owned provider is increasing electricity prices by 9.3%, adding €9.02 to the average monthly bill along with a 7% increase to gas prices which is an extra €4.85 a month on average.
Sinn Fein Councillor, Padraig Fallon says a cap needs to be implemented on energy increases following over 30 rises this year across all providers.
