Emergency legislation is needed to preserve Magdalen laundry records.
That's according to Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin, who has asked the Taoiseach for a commitment on the matter to ensure all records relating to Magdalene laundries and residents of those institutions be preserved and protected
Furthermore, the legislation would also deem to alter destroy or dispose of any of these documents as a criminal offence.
