Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are all set to receive emergency road funding after extremely wet months.
The allocated €30 million nationwide is broken down into €1.945 million for Donegal county council (the third highest in the country), €844,000 for Sligo county council, and €671,000 for Leitrim county council.
The funding is to deal specifically with the impact of climate change, which has contributed to a deterioration in the surface quality of certain parts of the road network over the winter months.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says “It is really important to keep our roads up to a proper standard for our rural dwellers and I am confident this extra allocation will help in that endeavour”.
Donegal Minister Charlie McConalogue says “It’s so important that we keep all our roads safe. This emergency investment will give Donegal County Council the funds necessary to repair potholes and other damage on our roads caused by the extremely heavy rainfall over the winter and spring months.”
