Saturday marked the end of an era in Collooney and Ballinacarrow as the Mercy Sisters departed the parish following a presence in the community for 115 years.
Similar to many religious congregations who are faced with decreasing numbers and an increasing age profile, Mercy Sisters have to make changes to address the new realities.
The two remaining sisters, Sr. Ann and Sr. Margaret received a guard of honour from the public on Saturday evening.
They and previous sisters will be remembered for the support they gave parish activities and initiatives, care of the bereaved and visiting the sick.
A special mass of thanksgiving will take place on Sunday, July 7th at 11am.
