Exciting archaeological discoveries in advance of N16 road works

Archaeologists working in advance of the upgrade of the N16 Sligo to Manorhamilton road at Lugatober (Lugnagall to Drumkilsellagh) have unearthed a fascinating range of prehistoric sites, as well as more recent sites of cultural heritage interest.

The investigation and excavation works were conducted by Archaeological Management Solutions on behalf of Sligo County Council and involved up to 30 archaeologists working on 15 different sites.

One of the most thrilling discoveries was a large, palisaded, or timber fenced, enclosure.

Archaeologist Orlaith Egan, from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, has been telling Ocean FM News about that and other discoveries.
